A tragic event at a mining site in Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State, has resulted in the deaths of at least 13 people.
The news was confirmed on Monday by Dr. Joshua Riti, the Chairman of Bassa LGA, who expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives in Saturday’s incident.
The mining site, located at the intersection of Bassa, Jos South, and Jos North Local Government Areas (LGAs), collapsed without warning, leading to several deaths. Dr. Riti reported that seven of those who lost their lives were residents from Bassa LGA.
This is a regrettable situation; these young individuals were simply trying to earn a living.
They ventured out to channel their efforts into coping with the present economic challenges in the country, but tragically encountered an untimely death.
He expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones impacted by this tragedy.
He mentioned that the majority of those who passed away were young individuals aged between 18 and 30 years.
