Thirteen people have been killed in a brutal attack by herdsmen on a Benue community, intensifying concerns over security and violence in the region.
At least 13 people have been killed in recent attacks by suspected herdsmen in Azege settlement, Mbaya, Tombo Ward, Logo LGA of Benue State.
The former Caretaker Chairman of Logo LGA, Benjamin Uzenda, confirmed to The Nation that the incident took place on Sunday morning at approximately 7:00 am.
Reportedly, the attacks included setting fires and destroying farmlands and crops in the area.
Uzenda confirmed the incident, stating: “The herdsmen were equipped with sophisticated weapons and immediately began shooting at residents who were getting ready to attend their morning church service.”
It appears to have been a coordinated and premeditated assault, as the attackers opened fire on defenseless villagers, mutilated some of the bodies after shooting them, and targeted women and children.
“The intruders conducted their operation for hours and escaped before security personnel reached the location.”
