Thirty people were injured in varying degrees in a truck accident that occurred at the Hawan-Kibo hamlet in the Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State on Thursday, with twelve people confirmed deceased.
The articulated vehicle went into a ditch in the afternoon while it was descending a hill on the run-down road. It was said that the vehicle was carrying sacks of grains and people.

Witnesses claimed that majority of the victims were killed instantly when the caravan, which was departing Jos, overturned and spilled its goods into the ditch.
The accident in Jos was reported on Thursday night by Mr. Godwin Alphonsus, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Plateau State.
“There was only one crash,” the sector commander declared. Both people and bags of grains were being transported in the caravan. It was going up a hill when its brakes failed and it went into a ditch.
“On Thursday afternoon, the accident occurred.”
