11 years after enforcing the prohibition, the Yobe government relaxes it in 7 LGAs
In seven local government areas, the Yobe State Government has relaxed the prohibition on motorbike use due to increased security.
This information was revealed in a statement given to Obasanjonews24 on Monday in Damaturu, the state capital, by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalam (Rtd), the governor Mai Mala Buni’s special adviser on security matters.
The announcement claims that beginning on March 6, 2023, motorcycles would once again be allowed to be driven on public roads in Zone A’s seven local government areas, which include Bursari, Damaturu, Geidam, Gujba, Gulani, Tarmuwa, and Yunusari.
“The embargo is lifted under the following terms:
“Motorbikes must be used between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. every day.
“Motorbikes ‘Achaba’ are not to be utilized for business activities.
There won’t be any passenger transportation on motorcycles. No further passengers are allowed on the motorcycle; only the rider is allowed.
The Yobe State Road Traffic Management Agency, or YOROTA, and the Yobe State Vehicle Licensing Authority should ensure that all motorbikes and riders in the impacted LGAs are properly registered, licensed, and documented, according to the statement.
All motorcycle owners must only operate inside the boundaries of their respective local governments, and there must be no passenger carriage. Violators will face penalties in accordance with current laws and regulations.
The security services were also instructed in the statement to monitor and guarantee rigorous adherence to the guidelines.
Remember that the state had a restriction on motorcycle use for the previous 11 years due to the Boko Haram insurgency. But, the state’s 17 local government districts are now experiencing a relatively high level of security, allowing the state administration to relax the prohibition.
