₦27 Billion Fraud Case: Court Grants Former Taraba Governor Ishaku ₦150 Million Bail
In a significant development, a court has granted former Taraba Governor Darius Ishaku bail set at ₦150 million in connection with an alleged ₦27 billion fraud case. The ruling allows Ishaku to await trial outside of custody.
Justice Sylvanus Oriji of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has approved bail for former Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishaku, setting it at 150 million Naira with two sureties required to provide the same amount.
The two guarantors are required to reside in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, and their home addresses must be confirmed by the court registrar.
The judge stated that one of them must hold a position as a director within the Federal Civil Service.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned the former governor on allegations of a ₦27 billion fraud before Justice Oriji.

Justice Oriji prohibited the former governor and his co-defendant, Bello Hero, from leaving the country without obtaining court permission.
The EFCC, represented by its counsel Rotimi Jacobs, did not contest the former governor’s request for bail.
Jacobs mentioned that the anti-corruption agency had provided administrative bail to the former governor, and he did not violate its terms.
Justice Oriji then scheduled the trial to commence on November 4, 5, and 13.
Ishaku served as the governor of Taraba State, located in Nigeria’s North-East zone, from May 2015 to May 2023. He was elected under the banner of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
